Ballot Measure 9 tells the story of how one of the first anti-gay ballot measures was defeated.

Continued from previous page

This year's Lesbian and Gay Shorts offers something for everyone. Wittkowsky purposely combined the shorts-two women's shorts and two men's shorts-in an effort to "get people into the theatre at the same time to enjoy some experiences together." The short films include A Friend of Dorothy's, directed by Raoul O'Connell; Greetings From Africa, directed by Cheryl Dunnye; Death in Venice, CA, directed by P. David Ebersole; and The Party Favor, directed by Lisa Udelson. These shorts can be seen on Thursday, April 6 at 7:15 pm, and Sunday, April 9 at 5:00 pm.

No film festival is complete without a double feature, and this year is no exception. Dream Girls, directed by Kim Longinotto and Jamo Williams of Great Britain, explores the all-female extravaganza staged by the Takarazuka Music School and Theater in Japan. The film explores women who act, look, and behave like "ideal" men, and the

women who buy tickets and stand in line to admire them. Longinotto and Williams have constructed a fascinating document that captures an understanding of this particular Japanese form of androgyny.

Rounding out the double bill is Sandra Bernhard: Confession of a Pretty Lady. Directed by Kristiene Clarke of Great Britain, this documentary examines this star of Roseanne and Without You I'm Nothing in greater detail than David Letterman ever would. This double feature can be seen on Saturday, April 1 at 4:45 pm, Sunday, April 2 at 9:00 pm, and Monday, April 3 at 2:30 pm.

Ticket packages are as varied as the films, and ordering in advance is highly recommended. Last year, almost 30 screenings sold out. Order by phone by calling 216-623-3456, or purchase tickets at Tower City on the second level on the Avenue, between Chico's and Golland Shoes. Tower City parking will only be $1.00 for festival-goers, and RTA buses and rapid trains go right to Tower City.
